The Academy of American Studies offers a wide range of options with many internships available for everybody, and many
students have been able to explore their interests and develop skills.
The college office emphasized how accessible the internship programs are to students, and the ongoing need for improvement. All internships are available through the website and students are encouraged to regularly check their emails for paid internships.
Looking ahead, the office wishes to give students more access to meetings with program directors to discuss these available options.
First year college student and Academy alumni Matthew Mercado said that being a part of the Wildlife Conservation Society had positively impacted him. “I was able to work at my current job because of recommendations from the people I grew close with, as well as learning to pursue my passion in teaching because of how I operated in the internship,” said Mercado.
Similarly, Afifa Jarin, a first-year college student and alumni participated in the Professional Tech Society, which she was able to do through Academy connections.
Through this internship, she was able to build her social skills and skills on technical issues. “I’m glad the school allowed me to build projects and present them, giving me a sense of fearlessness in my work environment now,” said Jarin.
