As the new school year begins, students are in the process of obtaining lockers. To do so, there are several steps they must follow and requirements they need to meet.
Assistant principal Kimberly Castrillion is responsible for the school’s organization, including managing the organization of student lockers.
In order to get a locker contract approved, “students must maintain 90% attendance, complete a meal form, have a physical blue card on record, no record in any hall sweeps, no deans record and finally sign the locker contract,” said Castrillion.
According to Maya Kolano, a senior who has a locker at Academy, “You can find locker contracts in the main office. They usually have a stack at the front, but if not, you could ask Ms. Ortiz, the school secretary.”
Once contracts have been submitted, they must be reviewed and approved before a student can be assigned a locker. “It took me
about a week to get confirmation,” said Kolano.
Students frequently ask if they can purchase their own locks. Castrillion cited safety concerns and high instances of forgotten
combinations. “In order to remind the students of their combination, we have an inventory of the locks in the building, and in the event of a safety concern, we can access the locker without damaging the lock. If the lock is purchased, then we would need to clip it,” said Castrillion.
Physical education teacher Shahad Malik said, “Student Government sells the red locks for $10 in room 111.”
