The New York Yankees entered last season with championship expectations, but by midseason those hopes faded. An inconsistent offense, unreliable pitching after the loss of Gerrit Cole and injuries pushed the Yankees out of serious contention and left fans frustrated. Now, with a crucial offseason underway, supporters are calling for meaningful changes as the franchise attempts to return to the golden days of Yankee baseball.
One of the biggest concerns among fans is the state of the outfield. Many believe the Yankees must act quickly to rebuild the position. Yankees fan and Academy junior Noah Kwiatkowski emphasized the need for a high-impact addition, noting the team can’t rely solely on Aaron Judge for production. “With a chance of Bellinger leaving, the Yanks need to re-sign him and go after another star batter through free agency like Kyle Tucker,” he said.
Starting pitching remains another major question, particularly regarding the health of Gerrit Cole. Kwiatkowski expressed optimism about Cole’s recovery, saying he has already begun ramping up bullpen sessions. A healthy ace at the top of the rotation would be a crucial boost for a staff that lacked depth without him last season.
The performance of younger players is another point of focus. Many fans feel players such as Anthony Volpe and Austin Wells must take significant steps forward if the Yankees want to compete in a stacked American League. Yankee fan Leo Rizzi put Volpe in the spotlight of uncertainty, saying, “The office has put so much faith into Anthony Volpe so I expect him to start in the beginning of the season, but if he continues to struggle the Yanks might move on from him by either benching him for Caballero or trading for a new shortstop.” If Volpe’s struggles continue, the team could consider a positional change or seek outside help.
Beyond roster construction, fans are focused on urgency within the organization. Rizzi described the upcoming season as a “do-or-die” moment for the Yankees, pointing to the team’s massive payroll and global expectations. He added, “If they don’t win within the next two years, I see the manager and the general manager being fired, and a lot of new players will come and current players will go.”
This offseason marks a defining moment for the franchise. With expectations high and patience running thin, the Yankees must decide whether they will continue falling short or return to the standard that once made them the most feared team in baseball. After a season filled with disappointment, fans expect significant improvement, and the organization can no longer afford to let them down.
